Failures and the Termination:
Why did the Freedmen's Bureau fail to continue it's charitable ways and why was it terminated?
The shortcomings of the Bureau were equivalent to their achievements. Land reform and the establishment of minimum wages for an employee were failed to be established. Africans Americans demanded plots of land from the Freedmen's Bureau because they believed that freedom was manifested in land. However, many were against this idea. In fact, the President Andrew Jackson was had a strong opinion on this issue and believed that freemen were not necessarily entitled to free land. He commenced to work in favor of terminating the Freedmen's Bureau. Jackson wanted to return all land to the rightful Southerners, ex-Confederates, through presidential pardons and the Amnesty Proclamation. The Congress was preoccupied with other national issues, and decided to terminate the Freedmen's Bureau in July, 1872.
